On 30 June 2026, the Butlletí Oficial de la Província de Tarragona published the new tax ordinance governing the municipal drinking water supply and sanitation service for the municipality of Pratdip.

This ordinance came into force on 1 July 2026.

For property owners in Les Planes del Rei, this ordinance, together with the notice published by the Town Council on 3 July 2026, provides several important answers… but many key questions concerning the redevelopment of the urbanisation remain unanswered.

This document now establishes the rules governing the water service throughout the municipality of Pratdip.

For property owners in Les Planes del Rei, several points deserve particular attention.

The water service is now managed directly by the Town Council

The ordinance confirms that the municipal water supply and sanitation service is now managed directly by the Pratdip Town Council.

However, the Town Council will continue to rely on specialised companies for certain technical tasks, including water quality testing and the preventive and corrective maintenance of the network.

This marks an important change, as the previous agreement with the Consell Comarcal del Baix Camp officially ended on 1 July 2026.

New tariffs for subscribers

The ordinance establishes different tariffs depending on the area of the municipality. Les Planes del Rei therefore has its own tariff structure, separate from those applied in the village of Pratdip and in Les Sorts.

Property owners in Les Planes del Rei are subject to a fixed subscription fee, tiered consumption rates and other charges introduced under this new ordinance.

The new tariffs have applied to all subscribers to the municipal water service since 1 July 2026.

The full tariff schedule is available in the official document, which can be found at the end of this article.

No sewerage charge for Les Planes del Rei

Another point deserves attention.

The ordinance specifies that the sewerage network charge only applies to subscribers in Pratdip.

Property owners in Les Planes del Rei are therefore not subject to this charge.

The 3 July notice provides further clarification

On 3 July 2026, the Pratdip Town Council published a notice informing subscribers about the implementation of this new organisation of the municipal water service.

In particular, the notice states that direct management by the Town Council is intended as a temporary solution, pending the award of a future works and services concession contract.

The notice also confirms that the project to renovate the water supply and sewerage networks in Les Planes del Rei remains linked to the future urbanisation works.

However, it still provides no information about the timetable for the works, their cost or how they will be financed.

Two water supply interruptions in just a few days highlight the condition of the network

Only a few days after the Town Council took over direct management of the water service, two interruptions to the water supply occurred in Les Planes del Rei on 6 and 8 July 2026.

On both occasions, the water supply was gradually restored, although several areas of the urbanisation were affected.

These two interruptions highlight a reality that many property owners have known for years: the water infrastructure in Les Planes del Rei is now reaching its limits. Despite the efforts of the technical teams, this type of incident will unfortunately remain difficult to avoid until the infrastructure is modernised.

These events show that ensuring the day-to-day operation of the service is one thing. Providing a reliable water supply is another. The real challenge now lies in modernising an ageing network that is no longer suited to current needs.

An ordinance that organises the service… but not future investment

This is probably the most important point.

This new ordinance answers many questions concerning:

  • the organisation of the service;
  • billing;
  • payment procedures;
  • the obligations of subscribers;
  • the new tariff structure.

However, neither this ordinance nor the notice published on 3 July answers the questions relating to the financing of infrastructure renovation or the future role of a possible AAC.

In particular, these two documents do not specify:

  • which works will be carried out on the networks in Les Planes del Rei;
  • the actual cost of those works;
  • how the investments announced over recent years will be financed;
  • what financial contribution may be required from property owners.

Two separate issues

For several months, discussions have focused both on the day-to-day management of the water service and on the redevelopment project for the urbanisation.

The ordinance and the notice published in early July provide answers regarding the daily operation of the water service and the temporary management arrangements introduced by the Town Council.

However, the questions concerning the financing of infrastructure renovation remain, for the time being, largely unanswered.

Continuing to keep property owners informed

The publication of this ordinance and the accompanying notice once again demonstrates that many official documents often go unnoticed, even though they may have concrete consequences for property owners in Les Planes del Rei.

The past few weeks have once again shown that while the organisation of the service is evolving, the infrastructure itself remains the same. The successive water supply interruptions observed at the beginning of July illustrate just how essential the modernisation of the network has become for Les Planes del Rei.

La Tribune de Planas will continue to monitor these official publications in order to explain their main provisions and their practical consequences for property owners in Les Planes del Rei.
