First meeting between AVPR–SOS Planas and Pratdip’s new mayor
On 9 August 2023, just a few weeks after the municipal elections, a delegation from AVPR–SOS Planas met with Pratdip’s new mayor, Silvia Carrillo.
An initial meeting
The meeting gave AVPR–SOS Planas an opportunity to present the new municipal administration with its main concerns regarding Las Planas del Rey.
The association reiterated its view that residents and property owners in the development should enjoy the same rights and services, and be subject to the same obligations, as residents of Pratdip itself.
It also outlined the legal action taken in previous years in connection with the development.
Two documents handed to the mayor
During the meeting, AVPR–SOS Planas handed the mayor two documents:
- a summary of the legal action taken since the 2016 court ruling;
- a copy of the administrative appeal filed in December 2021 against the works project put forward by the previous municipal administration and the proposed method of funding it.
The association also renewed its request for the application of Article 26 of Spanish Law 7/1985 of 2 April, governing the basic principles of local administration, which sets out the minimum services that municipalities are required to provide.
One of the main issues raised was street lighting, which has been out of service across much of the development since 2017.
The legal status of the development
The meeting also covered the partial transfer of certain areas of the development into municipal ownership.
AVPR–SOS Planas raised concerns about the transfer of some green spaces while the status of the roads, utility networks and other communal areas remained unresolved.
The mayor said she intended to review the files relating to the residential developments within the municipality herself and to ensure greater transparency in the way they were handled.
She also expressed her willingness to meet with AVPR–SOS Planas’s lawyer, Mr Barquín, to gain a clearer understanding of the ongoing proceedings and legal disputes.
A meeting that raised hopes
At the end of this first meeting, AVPR–SOS Planas welcomed the reception it had received and the prospect of opening a dialogue with the new municipal administration.
It was, however, only an initial meeting. How that dialogue developed would depend on the practical decisions taken by the Town Council regarding public services, infrastructure and the legal future of Las Planas del Rey.
