Date and Attendees:

On Wednesday, August 9, our association had a meeting with the new Mayor of Pratdip, Ms. Silvia Carrillo. The attendees included three members of our Association: Mr. Frederic Zuccheretti, Mr. JM Delchef (Jim), and our president, Gérard Marais.

A Positive Reception:

This meeting was unlike any before. We were met with respect and friendliness by Ms. Carrillo. We took a moment to congratulate her on her election victory and conveyed our appreciation for her approach.

Our Goals and Demands:

During our meeting, we explained our main goals and demands. In simple terms, we want the people of Planes del Rei to have the same rights and responsibilities as the residents of Pratdip. This equality is important to us. We emphasized that our association’s primary aim is to stand against the unfair actions of past Mayors that didn’t follow the law.

Addressing Past Challenges:

To fight for justice, we’ve had to take legal actions against the Town Hall since 2016, following an award that had implications. We handed over a list of these actions as well as a formal appeal (“recurso d’alzada”) that we submitted in December 2021. This appeal opposes the extravagant projects that the previous Mayor wanted us to fully fund, despite our ownership being 55% of Planes del Rei compared to the Town Hall’s 45%.

Basic Services and Integration:

We also discussed the need for basic services in our area, starting with proper lighting. We mentioned that according to Law 7/1985, Article 26, the Town Hall is responsible for providing these essential services. When it came to the integration of Planes, we questioned why only green spaces were included and not the rest of Planes. Ms. Carrillo admitted that she shared our confusion and didn’t understand the selective integration either.

A Transparent Approach:

Ms. Carrillo repeatedly emphasized her commitment to transparency. She assured us that she will personally handle the issues of our urbanization moving forward. This was heartening news for us. Additionally, she agreed to meet with our lawyer, Maître Barquin, which hadn’t happened with previous administrations.

Overall Assessment:

To sum up our first meeting, it was a very positive step forward. However, our ultimate judgment will be based on the Town Hall’s actions aligning with legality and fairness. We look forward to working collaboratively with Ms. Carrillo’s team to resolve the challenges faced by Planes.
