A forgotten enclave of the municipality of Pratdip
Planas del Rey is an urbanisation located within the municipality of Pratdip, in Catalonia. Originally designed as a pleasant residential area at the foot of the mountains, it is now in an advanced state of decay.
Pictures that speak for themselves
The photos published on this page need little commentary. They show crumbling streets, leaking pipelines, overgrown vegetation, abandoned buildings, nonexistent public lighting, and a level of unsanitary conditions that worsens each day.
An ignored municipal responsibility
Since the judicial dissolution of the former management entity (EUCC) in 2016, the legal responsibility for providing basic public services—drinking water, sanitation, lighting, road maintenance—lies with the Pratdip Town Hall. Yet, almost nothing has been done in this regard. The municipality continues to ignore its obligations, despite the regular payment of taxes by property owners.
A scandal that has gone on for far too long
This state of abandonment is not new. It is the result of a deliberate political decision: not to fully integrate this urbanisation into the municipal structure. Today, it raises serious issues of safety, public health, and the fundamental rights of residents.
Testifying to bring about change
By publishing these images, La Tribune de Planas aims to document the reality on the ground and alert public opinion. It is time this urbanisation finally received the attention it deserves. The residents, whether permanent or seasonal, ask for nothing more than to be treated as full citizens.
