The environmental entities will carry out actions in Terres de l’Ebre, Camp de Tarragona and Penedès

Environmental entities and groups will mobilize on May 7 and 8 across the country against the “avalanche” of renewable projects and to demand a change of model. The events, coordinated by the Xarxa per la Sobirania Energètica and the Xarxa d’Entitats Catalanes for a just energy transition, will take place in Terres de l’Ebre, Camp de Tarragona, Pallars Jussà, Ponent, central Catalonia and Penedès. At the end of the event, the reading of a manifesto on the repeal of Decree-Law 16/2019 will be required. They expect there will be more actions in the coming weeks. “We are going hand in hand and we will not stop,” they warn.

Under the slogan “El Terri Prou”, the demonstration comes after the gathering which, last weekend, brought together 52 environmental groups in the Plaça de Sant Jaume in Barcelona. “These projects must be stopped and another solution must be put in place because a different way of making the energy transition is possible”, declared Montserrat Corberó, spokesperson for the Xarxa of Catalan Entities for a just energy transition, during the presentation of the mobilizations.

The groups warned that the protests will not stop. Thus, in addition to the events scheduled for this weekend, they announced that they were preparing more actions during the weekend of May 22 and 23 and June 5 and 6.

Weekend events

As explained Toni Carulla, spokesman of the Grup d’Estudi i Protecció dels Ecosistemes Catalans – Ecologistes de Catalunya, two actions are planned in the camp of Tarragona. On Sunday morning a demonstration will take place in Reus and will converge on Prim Square. From 6 pm a gathering will be held on the former football field of Falset.

For its part, in the Terres de l’Ebre, the event will take place on Sunday at 11 am at the Gandesa bus station. From there, explained Ximo Estallé, of the Study and Protection Group of Catalan Ecosystems – Environmentalists of Catalonia, there will be a march to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where environmental entities will hold a meeting.

Two demonstrations will coexist in the Penedès. On the one hand, in Anoia, Sunday there will be a walk, on foot or by bike, which will have about ten points of departure: the places where are projected photovoltaic or wind farms. The intention is for the different groups to meet at around 1 pm on the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Igualada, where the manifest will be read. In parallel, there will be a demonstration in Pontons (Alt Penedès), where Saturday at 6pm a banner will be hung on the Place de la Mairie.
