For several months now, the issue of urbanizations with urban planning deficiencies has regularly returned to the Catalan news agenda. Following the article recently published by the Diari de Tarragona<\/span> concerning the 158 irregular urbanizations identified in the province of Tarragona<\/span>, two other articles published in El Peri\u00f3dico<\/span> provide a broader perspective on how the issue is evolving across Catalonia as a whole.<\/p>\n

These publications show that the question of unreceived or insufficiently equipped urbanizations is no longer considered a simple local issue, but rather a genuine territorial and institutional challenge.<\/p>\n

A legal change being considered by the Generalitat<\/h2>\n

In a first article published on March 6, 2026, El Peri\u00f3dico<\/span> explains that the Generalitat is working on legal adaptations intended to facilitate the regularization of hundreds of urbanizations in Catalonia.<\/p>\n

According to the information reported, nearly 700 urbanizations<\/span> are affected by various types of urban planning or administrative deficiencies. Some lack the necessary infrastructure, while others have never been officially received by the public authorities despite their age.<\/p>\n

The stated objective is to provide municipalities with additional tools to unblock situations that have sometimes remained frozen for several decades.<\/p>\n

This approach marks a significant evolution in the institutional discourse surrounding these urbanizations, which for a long time were treated as isolated or purely local situations.<\/p>\n

More than 80 mayors speak of a \u201cnational challenge\u201d<\/h2>\n

A few days later, on March 11, 2026, a second article in El Peri\u00f3dico<\/span> revealed that more than 80 Catalan mayors<\/span> were publicly calling for solutions to enable the regularization of numerous urbanizations.<\/p>\n

The elected officials describe a complex problem that goes far beyond a few isolated municipalities. Some even refer to it as a genuine \u201cnational challenge\u201d<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The difficulties mentioned include :<\/p>\n
